Lord Chadlington

Since 2000, Peter Chadlington has been Chief Executive of Huntsworth plc the international public relations and healthcare communications company. Huntsworth employs over 1,700 and serves over 2,500 clients through an international network of 70 offices.

Peter Chadlington read the Moral Science Tripos at Selwyn College, Cambridge before starting his career as a journalist and then entered financial PR with ICFC (now 3i).

He started Shandwick, the international PR firm, in 1974 and ten years later floated the company - which was already the largest PR firm in the UK - on the London Stock Market. After Shandwick was sold to IPG in 1998, it became the largest PR firm in the world.

Lord Chadlington has served as a non-executive director on a number of Boards including HBOS, Britax and Tempus. He has also been active in the arts as member of the Arts Council, Chairman of the Royal Opera House, was the first Chairman of the Lottery Distribution arm of the Arts Council of England and is currently Chairman of Lapada.

He has a number of charitable interests but is particularly involved in prison reform and the problems of addiction.

He is married with four children and lives in London and Oxfordshire.

Meet the Board

The Conservative Foundation was launched in March 2009. The Foundation’s task is to build an endowment fund to underpin the finances of our Party in the long term, and is asking supporters to leave the Foundation a gift in their wills.

The purpose of the endowment is to pass only investment income to the Party. The capital raised by the Foundation is ring-fenced and protected, and so benefactors can take comfort that their contribution of capital will remain forever for the benefit of the Party and future generations of Conservative supporters.

The Foundation is supporting the Conservative Candidate Bursary Scheme, a £250,000 fund set up financially to support Conservative parliamentary candidates for this Parliament, with at least the same amount available in future parliaments. This scheme will be means-tested and will support candidates who otherwise could not afford to fund their campaigns. The scheme will make sure that financial means are not a barrier to standing for Parliament, meaning our Party can become more representative of the people that it serves.
